Many of us are familiar with the music played by the
zingari (gypsies) at an Italian
trattoria. Imagine being home studying the language in your 14th-century-old apartment when that familiar sound is suddenly approaching your small street.
I was compelled to rush to the window to see what was going on: Three men playing their instruments to those of us at home, and the residents opening their windows and tossing
moneta (coin) and euro to the artists in the street. It was a treat I am glad to have been home to see.
